Gate valves can be classified based on the configuration of their sealing surfaces into wedge-type gate valves and parallel-type gate valves. Wedge-type gate valves are further categorized into single-disc, double-disc, and flexible-disc types, while parallel-type gate valves are categorized into single-disc and double-disc types. Based on the position of the stem threads, they are classified as either rising-stem or non-rising-stem gate valves.
Based on connection methods, they are classified into flanged, threaded, butt-weld, socket-weld, bellows-sealed, and pressure-seal forged steel gate valves. Based on special functions, they include bellows-sealed, jacketed (thermal insulation), and soft-seated gate valves. Based on the operating medium, they are classified into types suitable for ammonia, natural gas, steam, water, and other gases.
